Gerringong Weather Station

About This Station

My weather station is powered by a Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station. The data is collected every 3 seconds and the site is updated every 5 minutes for static pages or every 4 seconds for live data. This site and its data is collected using Weather Display Software. The station is comprised of an anemometer, a rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible.

The weather station is located in Gerringong.

I put up the weather station to help me plan my Kite Surfing activities. The data from this weather site is uploaded to the Seabreeze website and feeds the Gerroa wind speed history there. Hopefully other kiters and windsurfers will find this helpful too.

Radio - APRS

I am a licensed Ham radio operator with the call sign VK2HIM. I operate mainly on APRS which transmits your GPS location via radio and displays it on the internet. I run the Illawarra Region IGATE as well as a fill-in digipeater. You can view APRS location data on google maps at http://aprs.fi. The weather data is also transmitted via APRS radio for display in your car.

Radio - AIS

The maritime equivalent of APRS is AIS, and I also receive shipping locations via radio and display them on google maps.

Lightning Photography

I take photos of lightning using a Canon camera with modified CHDK firmware.
